All football related topics, all the time. That's what these articles are about.
The Chicago Bears beat the defending Super Bowl Champs thanks in part to 2 missed field goals by the Steelers kicker, the Saints demolished a stingy Eagles defense and Plexi-glass Burress may become someone's bitch in prison very soon(not necessarily football-related, but close enough). Comments on any of this? Go for it.
There is a plethora of intriguing games this coming weekend. With the season, the players and coaches in full swing, Week 3 is going to be a week in which a little separation between the playoff teams and the dreamers will be shown. Can the 49ers get to 3-0 against an undefeated Minnesota team in which Adrian Peterson WILL participate in? Did anyone predict that they would start 2-0? Not this guy. Can the Saints keep up the high scoring pace against an improving Buffalo team? Probably. The Saints are on pace to destroy the Points Scored record set by the 2007 Patriots. Will they achieve it? Shake the Magic 8-Ball and you will most likely find your answer.
This week boasts only 4 conference games: The Steelers roll into Cincy who are both 1-1 meanwhile the defeated Browns head to Baltimore to face a Ravens team whose QB, Joe Flacco, has been on fire to start the season. Also, the Jags head to Houston, whose offense came alive against one of the best defenses in the league last week, sending the Titans to an 0-2 record. Lastly, Denver heads to the Black Hole to face an Oakland team who seem to have started putting it together. Will it last over the course of the season? Most signs point to no. But keep drafting the speed guys Al Davis. Eventually, your team will consist of 11 guys who can run the 40 yard dash in 4.4 seconds. Yes, even the linemen.
Can we talk about Plaxico Burress going to prison? He gets 3 showers per week and 3 hours a day out of his cell. Tough. Maybe you will think twice about carrying a non-registered handgun into a club and also not shoot yourself. Ok, that's enough.
Are the 2-0 Jets for real? Last week, I predicted Tom Brady and the Patriots to continue their home dominance over New York's Mean Green Machine. The Jets prevailed and their defense looked better than it has in about a decade, maybe more. Did Broadway Joe instill his "fun" side into the once lifeless looking Jets? Rex Ryan has them playing and playing well. Sanchez has the poise of a veteran in the pocket and will continue looking downfield. But I think Tennessee will finally put a 1 in the Win column. PICK: Tennessee
The Bears run game has looked less than mediocre yet going up against a weak Seahawks defense this week, should get them back on track. Matt Forte has not started this season like he finished last season, but expect him to rattle off some big runs in the Crow's nest which should open up the passing game as well. The Bears defense should also step up in this game with Matt Hasselbeck out because of a cracked rib being replaced by the "run first, pass never" Seneca Wallace meaning you will see more 4 and 5 man fronts to stop the run game and to keep Wallace in the pocket. PICK: Chicago PLAY: Matt Forte BENCH: Matt Hasselbeck
Pierre Garcon was a very popular pickup this week in the Fantasy world because of the injury to Anthony Gonzalez. But I am not ready to drink that Kool-Aid yet so, therefore, this weeks' Sleeper Pick I am going with Chester Taylor. Adrian Peterson has had stiffness in his back and was limited in practice throughout the week, so expect Taylor to siphon some carries away from Peterson this week. Brad Childress can ill-afford to lose his franchise back, especially with an over-the-hill QB who has less-than-stellar arm at age 39 and two mediocre back-ups. The Purple People Eaters will have to run the ball to be successful against the upstart 49ers which means more carries for Taylor.
SLEEPER: Chester Taylor
I know I usually post on Wednesdays, so I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused any of you this week. However, since this is something I do for sheer enjoyment to provide you with the best possible advice from days and days of constant research, it never hurts to actually read these posts or follow them on a weekly basis and perhaps email or leave a comment. So I do not fully blame myself. I partially blame El Nino.
